Most blogs open with a wall of text and confusing navigation. An inbox opens with a question you already know the answer to: What haven’t I read yet?
So this one is an inbox. Every post is a thread. The bright ones are unread; the dim ones you’ve already opened. Your browser keeps that list and you can clear it whenever you like from Settings.
What the folders are
Under the inbox sit topics: Meta for notes on the site itself, Building for engineering, Field Notes from the world, Essays for the longer arguments. Click one to filter the list. Nothing reloads.
Getting in touch
The + Compose button up in the sidebar opens an actual message — same idea as the rest of the site, just running the other direction. To is fixed; you can't redirect it anywhere else. From is the one field worth filling in: put your own email address there, because that's what lets me write back.
Subject is optional. The body takes basic formatting — bold, italic, underline, bulleted and numbered lists — nothing fancier than that. Hit Send and it's on its way.
